Iran's getting closer to the bomb. Israel is rattling its saber. The U.S. has created the toughest sanctions in history. Given all of that, we thought that it would be the perfect time to visit an Iranian-funded mosque.
Next door to the ruins of Baalbek sits the Sayyida Khawla Mosque, a mosque in the classic Persian style: bright chandeliers, colorful tiles, and a giant mosaic of the Ayatollahs Khomeini and Khamenei. That last piece of evidence is the dead give away that the mosque is brought to you by Iran.

According to the folks who we chatted with, Sayyida Khawla was Imam Hussein's daughter and the Prophet Mohammed's great-grandaughter. She was apparently killed at the Battle of Karbala, which is in modern day Iraq. We're not quite sure how her body made it up to Baalbek.

Historical details aside, everyone was welcoming and friendly in the mosque. Jane, as always, was a great conversation starter.
So our recommendation to the world's diplomats as they try to find a solution to the current game of high-stakes chicken going on between Iran and Israel: bring a baby to the negotiating table.
